The Gates Foundation, formerly the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 2000 by Bill and Melinda Gates to enhance health care, reduce extreme poverty, expand educational opportunities, and access to information technology worldwide. The foundation focuses on several key areas: global health, global development, global growth and opportunity, and United States education. Through its initiatives, the foundation supports a wide range of programs, including efforts to combat infectious diseases, improve maternal and child health, promote agricultural development, and enhance educational outcomes.

ADB approved $93.6 million in loans and grants to improve and expand climate-resilient and inclusive rural water supply, sanitation, and hygiene facilities for 88,000 households in 400 villages in 50 communes across 9 provinces in Cambodia.
Going to the toilet is a daily challenge for people living in floating villages in Cambodia. ADB, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Japan are helping to bring better water supply and sanitation facilities to these villages and improve people’s health in rural Cambodia.
The Water Financing Partnership Facility (WFPF) was established in November 2006 to support ADB’s Water Program 2006–2020. The WFPF consists of three trust funds, including the Sanitation Financing Partnership Trust Fund with contributions from the Gates Foundation.
The project, supported by the Sanitation Financing Partnership Trust Fund, benefited 370,000 residents in rural Cambodia after it rehabilitated existing wells and built new wells and a small community water supply system.
