Global Agriculture and Food Security Program

The Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) is a multilateral financing platform dedicated to improving food and nutrition security and building sustainable agriculture and food systems in the world’s most vulnerable countries. GAFSP was launched following a call from G20 leaders in 2009 to respond to the food price crisis. Its objectives include increasing agricultural productivity, enhancing farmers’ livelihoods, and promoting climate resilience.

GAFSP supports both public and private sector investments. Its public sector funding window supports strategic country or regional programs arising from sector-wide consultations. The private sector window uses blended finance solutions and concessional funding to support private sector activities, providing long- and short-term loans, credit guarantees, and equity investments to improve agricultural development and food security.

In 2024, GAFSP launched the Business Investment Financing Track, a $75 million investment window aimed at accelerating financial innovations for smallholder farmers and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in the agri-food sector.

Training on Data Analysis and AI Application for ANR Projects in Cambodia: Estimating Crop Yields Gaps in Rice SDP Project Areas

During COVID-19 lockdowns, Cambodia’s Climate Resilient Rice Commercialization Sector Development Program, supported by the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program, explored remote ways to monitor project implementation. This training helped government offices learn crop yield estimation, data analysis, and the use of geographic information system and artificial intelligence for mapping and development planning in Cambodia.
